The PAIN TrainWe did some filming of the guys practicing deploying from their van. Usually we are moving behind them and only get shots of their backs. It was cool to see it from the front... safely.

New Recruit
I have heard that the SWAT teams will be putting together a batch of possible new members. A producer can dream - can't he?

BLOWN OUTThe AIR is gone. My Nike Air ACG trainers are officially being retired today after 18 months of service. They were with me nearly everyday of the third season of AIRLINE and beyond. Who knows how many miles of airport terminal they tread.

The rigors of day to day SWAT activity have required me to rethink my footwear. I have switched to the Danner 8" Striker GTX. They're pretty sweet!

LASERI received this image today courtesy of Aram Sarhadian the photoshop pimp! The laser attachment would have come in handy last night when we were called out at midnight and had to work in near darkness.

After Work
Fortunately for me there is a great cafe just across the street from my loft. The JP Wine Bar opened just about the time I got to KC. It is also an upscale coffee house that opens at 6AM. They do lunch during the week and at night it is a hip bar with a 20 bottle wine preservation system.

KCMO

Kansas City is a city covering parts of Jackson, Clay, Cass, and Platte counties in Missouri, USA. Although it is the largest city in Jackson County, the suburb of Independence is the county seat. Situated at the junction of the Missouri and Kansas rivers, it lies along the boundary between Missouri and Kansas, and is directly opposite of Kansas City, Kansas.

Often abbreviated as "KC" (to refer to the entire metropolitan area), or "KCMO" (to refer to only Kansas City, Missouri), Kansas City, Missouri is the largest city in Missouri and the center of the 26th largest metropolitan statistical area in the United States. In the Midwest, Kansas City is the 7th largest city (between Cleveland, Ohio and Omaha, Nebraska). As of the 2000 census, the city has a population of 441,545. Combined with Kansas City, Kansas, the population is 588,411, but the entire metropolitan area (in both Missouri and Kansas) is approximately 1,836,038. (Census estimated 1,947,694 in 2005)

BBQArthur Bryant's is a restaurant located in Kansas City, Missouri. It is considered by many to be the most famous barbecue restaurant in the United States. It was founded in 1923 by Charlie Bryant, and taken over by his brother Arthur Bryant upon his death. The restaurant was moved to 18th St. and Brooklyn Avenue in 1930, and became popular among the baseball players who played at nearby Municipal Stadium.

The restaurant gained fame over the next several decades, and notable diners included President Harry Truman. However, it became the subject of international attention when, in 1974, writer Calvin Trillin wrote in Playboy that Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City was "...possibly the best single restaurant in the world." Since then, it has been frequented by a number of famous visitors, including Steven Spielberg, Bryant Gumbel, Jimmy Carter, and Jack Nicholson, as well as a number of barbecue aficionados.

Arthur Bryant's is considered to have started the barbecue movement in Kansas City, by adapting other regional styles and inventing a particular style of sauce which is served with the smoked meats. The meat is smoked using hickory and oak.

Bryant's original location is kind of a no frills joint. Sr. Producer Erik Sulcs (pronounced: Shultz) and I had a craving for some BBQ today and had to stop by. We've taken some of the SWAT guys to lunch here. They love their BBQ!

KC at Twilight
Here is a view of the city at dusk that was shot as part of a timelapse sequence. The vantage point is from a bridge on the Western edge of the city. The bridge happens to be 200 yards from the front gate of the FBI building. The whole time we were filming I expected the feds to pull up.

FLASH BANGHad my first experience with a Flash Bang grenade during some entry training with TRT 170 Squad. This frame grab is the moment of the "flash." It was unexpected and I jumped. After a few more bangs in the house I was able to hold a steady shot.
THE KANSAS CITY CUT

After one week in KC and a couple days sweating in body armor it was clear that the long locks would be lopped.
